Worn out…

I've definitely been burning the candle a little too much at both ends I think, if I'm not 90% working, I'm 90% partying, and most of that 10% is filled with cooking or washing...

Only one more festival between me and a nice, relaxing August; I'm going to enjoy the festival, but I'm definitely going to appreciate a bit of a break after!

British Grand Prix

After many years of watching it on TV, I finally went to the British Grand Prix. I'd always thought about it as a kid, as I grew up watching Stock Cars (nothing like NASCAR, more like beach-buggies with a giant slanted-wing on top) and Banger racing with my dad. I was lucky enough to be working at an events company when the CART FedEx Championship Series came to Rockingham Motor Speedway in 2002...

Umm…

Now this has got to be the weirdest story I've seen on The Register for a while, and whilst now technically being half-Chinese (depends which Cantonese people you ask...) I'm curious as to why exactly people would think it'd be great to have Bill Gates' children?!

Too few hours in the day

I'm definitely starting to wonder where all my time goes, and figuring out ways to get hold of more of it, if only time was like a commodity... After fighting off a hangover from Oxford's Cowley Road Carnival I've been trying to strin-together some consecutive hours to finish some data management I was doing on one of my freelance projects, which is due in the not too distant future. However...

Continuing Education

I've just finished some work I was doing for Oxford University's Department of Continuing Education a couple days ago. It was just some quick scripting for a rank-based search engine algorithm, rather than alphabetical. Part of their development team was on holiday so I stepped in to do some work in the meantime, although they've come across problems with their database, indexing I'd imagine...

Tired…

Work and meetings and meetings and work, I need a bit of a break I think! Maybe in July sometime... Meanwhile I did manage to pick up a Wii before the weekend, and I've got to say it's the only thing keeping my sane at the moment; it's absolutely fantastic! Such a weird feeling, not hitting buttons or moving a stick, but flicking your wrists in the right motion, plus it's a lot more accurate than...

ITSS Conference

It's been a busy week this week! Finally finished the series of C training courses I've been attending, and in the midst of some freelance too. Add a conference to all this and you can see why I was hankering for a lie in this morning! Plus being so busy cost me a couple work trips to the pub, and I like the pub... The Oxford University Information Technology Support Staff (ITSS) Conference was...

Accessing and Storing Knowledge

Almost forgot about the site I'd worked on a few weeks back for a colleague at my workplace; Accessing and Storing Knowledge. The tool itself was developed between the UHI Millenium Institute and Oxford University Computing Services as a federated search tool for academic resources (not entirely sure what kind of content it current indexes but I've been reassured it's quite flexible)

Why I won’t be getting an iPhone… yet

I got round to watching the WWDC Keynote (albeit a day late) and there were quite a few interesting things mentioned (excluding the things we've seen before, such as Spaces, Core Animation, Time Machine and the like)

MacBook Pro with Full HD (1080) displays

Got a little excited when these badboys came out a few days ago; I've heard that the 15" models have gotten the LED upgrade, but since I got my Benq FP241W I couldn't imagine working on something smaller. It really does make your life so much easier with that amount of extra pixels on the screen!
